UAL UNIT 8 FMP COURSE REVIEW-LOCATION
CLASS MIND-MAPPING
To start off our final major project, after doing our course review, we discussed the theme of Location as a class. Location is the longitudinal and latitudinal values that make up your location or place that you are at.
Location is also made of co-ordinates and graphs, such as the world map with the measurements of each country and body of water.
Another way to interpret the theme of Location is through media such as on the news. This will then make the audience aware of what is happening in the world.
WIX PRACTICE WEBSITE FOR FMP LOCATION
We were tasked as a class to practice doing a website on WIX based on our FMP theme of Location this is my website:
CONCEPT ART FOR CLASSROOM
MY CHOSEN DESIGNER FOR INSPIRATION
Alain Vonck is a French art director and designer and effortlessly flits between editorial design, visual identity and web-based graphics. Applying his refined style to a range of commercial briefs along with self-initiated projects, he is able to maintain a contemporary approach whilst promoting his elegant versatility.Alain worked with company Tamyras to promote their Positive Lebanon Project with "Notebook", an artfully designed book consisting of 250 pages of his engaging illustrations.
These are 2 examples of his work:
This is the 1st example of his artwork. He uses vivid, bright colours to attract the audience. He also uses a contrast of colour between black and white and bright colours. This gives the audience an abstract, irregular view of the artwork. What I like is the use of the various shades of vivid colours being presented.
This is the 2nd example of his artwork. This artwork uses a different image to the 1st example as he uses different angles for his photos to give off a different feeling and emotion to the audience. The colours form a bright border aroung the image and includes a a unique pattern inside of the border. This to me attracts me to look at the artwork as iot uses vivid, bright colours and a main image.
EXPERIMENTAL ALAIN VONCK
I have used Adobe Photoshop to create this experimental image influenced by Alain Vonck. I have imported a black and white portrait and then added layers for the various features of the picture. The tools that assisted me in producing the effects were the brush tool as I enlarged the size of the brush to create the vivid colours. For the black circles, I have used the shape tool to create Alain's style of his artwork. For the swirls, I have used the Mixed Brush tool. I think this was easy however there was some features for me that were hard for me to use. This includes: finding the additional features of the brush tool, using the eclipse tool to create the black circles.
DRAWING EXPERIMENTATION
This is a drawing that I have created using Adobe Animate. I have used the brush tool and a reference of Jerry from Tom and Jerry to draw him.
Reflective Journal- 21st April 2025
On Wednesday, I drew the concept art for the characters, made a animation idea mindmap, and researched different art styles and animation techniques.
CONCEPT ART FOR FINAL ANIMATION
This is the concept art that I have created using IbisPaintX,which is the free version. The story of my animation is going to be about Mario travelling through pipes, exploring different worlds, finally reaching Bowser. He will then defeat Bowser to save the Mushroom Kingdom.
Animation storyboard(Draft)
This is a draft of my storyboard for my final animation.I will be doing an updated storyboard which is going to be more detailed.
FINAL STORYBOARD FOR ANIMATION
This is the final storyboard that I have produced for my final animation.I have included more description to the storyboard like more actions, fitted the drawings inside of the box and directions using arrows.

Different Art Styles
Line Drawing- is a minimalist approach to art and uses only lines to produce an image. It includes on relying on contours to shape images without intricate shading.
Graffiti-this is commonly used for street art and is a very bold and colourful style usually done with spray paint. It acts as a spontaneous and freeform approach to drawing and illustration.
Charcoal drawing- is a style of drawing that uses charcoal sticks, powder or pencils to create cool artworks.
Stippling- is the hatching drawing style that involves making an image using several adjacent parallel lines. It is possible to create an array of various shading effects.
Caricature- are drawings that depict their subjects in oversimplified or overdramatised manners. This focuses on using exaggeration to produce a funny image of the person.
Crayon drawing- it uses crayons of various colours to produce an image.By using the pointy tips of the crayons, you can create shading effects and use smudging to make your image more realistic.
Pixel Art- this is a form of digital art which is used to create 2D platformers, characters, collectables, health bars, and so much more. It is mainly done on programmes.
Cartoon- are typically characterised by simplified, exaggerated depictions of characters and scenes. Some different cartoon styles include: caricature, anime or manga, and classic Disney.
Different Animation Techniques
Stop-Motion- it involves moving an object and taking pictures of the story, moving the object as if it is moving. It involves about 1,100 pictures to create a very good stop-motion animation.
Flipbook- it involves using a book that you have to draw pictures. Every page will be different as you are trying to create a moving image that will create some sort of story.
3D Animation- it is used to design characters, objects and backgrounds in more depth. The characters are usually produced to view every angle.
Hand Drawn Animation- this is a more traditional way of animating even before the programmes were created. It involves hand drawn images.
2D Animation- this is used to produce traditional cartoons and anime, where characters and backgrounds are drawn by hand. It is used to create flat 2D environments and characters.
Experimental Animation
This is a experimental animation which I have produced using an onion skin to move both the taxi and the person. This shows a person which is hailing a taxi to drive to the airport.
1ST 3D RENDERED MODELS
As you can see these are the 3D models for my characters which I will incorporate in my final animation. As I develop this project,I will be making the models more realistic using a better software.
Reflective Journal-28th April 2025
On Monday, I have started looking at SpriteSheet animation which I will be doing on Adobe Animate. I will also be watching a tutorial on this type of animation. I felt that this will be interesting and exciting as this sort of animation looks fun and interesting to animate.
Practice SpriteSheet Animation-Adobe Animate
This is an animation that I have produced using a spritesheet of the character Mario. Using the onion skin, creating different layers and naming them, I have moved the alternate positions that I have chosen to create a running animation. This was a little hard as I was new to this type of animation and used tutorials and my teachers help to produce this animation.
TRYING OUT PIXILART ALONG WITH THE PHOTOSHOP PIXEL GRID
This is an experimental usage of a pixel grid on Adobe Photoshop. This feature was new to me as I did not know how to use this part of Photoshop. This will help me in my FMP project as it is easier to recreate characters using this feature.
This is an experimental sprite production using the programme PixilArt. As you can see, I have done both positions of the animation that I am going to use in my final animation. This programme was easier for me to use as there was not that much sidebars for me to use. For future production work,I have come to the decision that I will be using PixilArt for producing sprites for animations.
More character PixilArt Concept Art
This is a pixel art sprite of Cranky Kong of which I imported it onto the stage and realised that the 32x32 pixel grid is blurry. I will now test the sizing to decide which pixel grid suits my animation.
PROGRESS OF MY FINAL ANIMATION
This is an image of my 2nd scene which I will be finishing by today. As you can see, I have used a background which I will be creating my animation on, a spritesheet of the characters that I will; be animating, and finally the layers so then I know what will be included in this part of 5the animation. I think this is going really well as I followed the tutorial that my teacher showed me so then I can do it myself.
1ST SCENE PROGRESS
This is the progress for my final animation. This is the opening scene for the animation. To create the background, I have used Adobe Photoshop and the brush tool to produce the background. As you can see, I have created various shades of colours to make it look realistic. I have also added details such as the flowers, hills and the castle. To make it pixelised,I used the Pixelise feature to make it into a Mosaic. I think this went really well as I enjoyed using the brush tool on Adobe Photoshop which makes it easier for me to create backdrops for various different animations.
SKETCHES FOR MY FMP LOCATION EXHIBITION POSTER
These are the sketches for my FMP Location Exhibition.I have been tasked of sketching various different poster designs to put on my Exhibition.
